American Sam Querrey pushed his way into the US Open’s third-round on Thursday, rolling past 28th seeded Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to advance.

Querrey continued to use his powerful serve to get by. He entered today’s match in the top five of aces this season, and added 16 more to his total this afternoon. His first serve was un-returnable for Garcia-Lopez, who won just six points on Querrey’s first serves.

He improves to 4-0 all-time versus Garcia-Lopez, and draws a third-round bout with the winner of Novak Djokovic and Paul-Henri Mathieu’s contest. Querrey will try and match his best showing at the US Open, fourth-round appearances in 2008 and 2010.

Top-ranked American John Isner also cruised into the third-round Thursday, beating Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-2. The 6’10 Isner fired 30 aces in the three sets on his way to winning 87 percent of his first serve points. Isner meets German Phillip Kohlschreiber next.

Kohlschreiber advanced due to his opponent retiring, as Frenchman Michael Llodra bowed out early into the second set. Japan’s Kei Nishikori also advanced to the third-round as well, moving past Spaniard Pablo Andujar 6-4, 6-1. Andujar was forced to retire after the second set. The two retirements today make it nine total thus far through nearly two rounds of action.

Nishikori will meet the winner of Argentinean Leonardo Mayer and Australian Matthew Ebden in the next stage.
