Isner Takes Home Newport Crown For Second Career Title

There’s nothing more fulfilling in this world than predicting something and it actually happening. Just like I said in my previous article, I predicted John Isner to reach the final where he would play the last remaining seeded opponent, Olivier Rochus. The fact of the matter is, I really don’t feel so proud of myself as this was only an ATP 250 tournament, meaning it’s a lot easier to predict your winners than of course a Grand Slam. If you know your tennis then you would agree. Regardless, when I left off last article, American John Isner had clinched a spot in the semifinals where he would meet Tobias Kamke of Germany. Isner was able to get through the German in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(4).
As Isner booked his spot in the finals, Belgium’s Olivier Rochus was able to do the same. Although Rochus is very quick off the ground, he was no match for the 6”9 American who served 22 aces en route to a straight set victory, 6-3, 7-6(6). For Isner, this marks his second career ATP title, his first coming in 2010 in Auckland, New Zealand. With a bit of confidence in his pocket now, Isner will look to impress as the U.S. Open Series on the hard courts begin, beginning in Atlanta, Georgia on July 18th.
