American John Isner is into the semifinals of the 2013 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, after his 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 win over the top-seeded and number one-ranked Novak Djokovic Friday afternoon. Isner came into Cincinnati with a 27-18 record in 2013, after lifting his second title of the year recently at the BB&T Atlanta Open. Djokovic had a  3-1 lead in their head-to-head matches, and the pair last met earlier this year in the Davis Cup tie between Serbia and USA where Djokovic was a straight-sets winner.

Isner hit 42 winners, nine aces and secured 16 points at the net to move on to the semis where he will face Juan Martin del Potro after the Argentine defeated Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 on Friday.

“It was a really tough match for me. It’s not easy playing a quarterfinals in a Masters 1000, but I think I did well in the end,” said del Potro. "I served well. I made many aces. I’m looking forward to tomorrow."
