Northport’s Cannon Kingsley advanced to the U.S. Open Boys’ third-round on Tuesday afternoon, beating Belgium’s Arnaud Bovy 6-1, 6-7(6), 6-4 to claim his spot in the final 16.
The former Suffolk County Singles Champion played a dominant first set that saw him break twice in six chances. He held a 5-1 lead before the Extreme Heat Policy came in to play, suspending the match for nearly two hours.
When play resumed, Kingsley calmly held serve to take the opener. But Bouvy responded in the second set, pushing out to a 5-2 advantage, and despite Kingsley fighting back to force a tiebreak, Bouvy sent the contest into a deciding third set.
The decider remained on serve through the first nine games as Kingsley took a 5-4 lead. Bouvy saved his first match point, but double-faulted at 30-40, and sent Kingsley into the third-round.
The future Ohio St. Buckeye will play Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti next.
