Victoria Azarenka, who has been out of action for more than two months due to a left foot injury, has been forced to withdraw from next week’s 2014 French Open at Roland Garros. This marks the first time she has had to pull of a Grand Slam, having last played on the WTA Tour at Indian Wells, Calif. on March 7 where she lost to the unseeded American Lauren Davis in her opening match. So far this year, Azarenka has withdrawn from WTA events in Doha, Miami, Madrid and last week’s Internazionali BNL d'Italia.

“Hi guys … unfortunately I will not be able to compete in Roland Garros this year. Working hard on my recovery and getting back on the court,” said Azarenka via Twitter.

Azarenka, a two-time Australian Open champion and two-time U.S. Open runner-up, has slipped to fifth in the world in the WTA Women’s Singles Rankings.
