Tuesday saw two local hopefuls take to the courts at the Australian Open and both came up with performances to make the Tri-State area proud.
Long Islander Scott Lipsky, along with his partner Rajeev Ram, are seeded 13th in the Men’s Doubles draw and defeated the team of Albert Montanes & Albert Ramos of Spain in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6 in their first round match. The team of Lipsky & Ram will now face the winner of the match between Michael Mertinak & Andre Sa vs. Alexadr Dolgopolov & Denys Molchanov.
On the women’s singles side of play, Christina McHale of Teaneck, N.J. defeated Marina Erakovic of New Zealand, coming back from a set down to win her second round match in three tough sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3. McHale is still the second-highest ranked American woman in the draw and will now take on 13th seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
