Long Island Native Lipsky Advances to Mixed-Doubles Semis at Roland Garros
May 31, 2011 | By David Drucker
Merrick, N.Y. native Scott Lipsky has made his way into the semifinals of the mixed-doubles bracket at the 2011 French Open with partner Casey Dellacqua of Australia. Lipsky, a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, N.Y. as well as Stanford University, is catching the eyes of many as he seeks his first Grand Slam Mixed-Doubles Title. The American/Australian duo have managed to drop only one set in their route to the semifinals. The team will now face the pair of Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil, along with Australia’s Jarmila Gajdosova. Lipsky and Dellacqua should have momentum on their side, as Lipsky has the edge over Bellucci in the doubles aspect. Bellucci, who is mostly recognized as a singles player, is ranked 25th in the world. Should Lipsky and Dellacqua advance to the French Open finals, they will meet either number one seeds Katarina Srebotnick of Slovenia & Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia, or Nadia Petrova of Russia & Jamie Murray of Great Britain.
The inspiring story of Scott Lipsky continues as he and partner Rajeev Ram, also from the United States, were able to make their way to the quarterfinals before falling to the number four-seeded team of Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia & Michael Llodra of France, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. After taking the first set, Lipsky & Ram looked to pull off the upset, but fell short in doing so as the team of Zimonjic & Llodra came to life, taking the final two sets with ease. For Lipsky, this marks his furthest appearance in a Grand Slam draw. Prior to this quarterfinal run, Lipsky had only made it as far as the third round at Wimbledon in 2007. The attention now turns to the mixed-doubles semifinal as Lipsky & Dellacqua look to continue their dream run.
