A Look Ahead to Olympic Tennis: Day Four (Tuesday July 31st)

Tuesday, July 31 marks the fourth day of the 2012 Olympic Tennis Championships in London. Back at the grass courts of the All-England Club the world’s top competitors will compete for a title that holds the same prestige as a Grand Slam title, an Olympic gold medal and national pride.
Five Americans have passed the first round challenges in the men’s and women’s singles events. The Williams Sisters are both in contention in both the singles and doubles draws representing the USA. Serena will face Vera Zvonareva of the Russian Federation in tomorrow’s matchup. Sister Venus will face Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniak. In addition to the Williams Sisters, American Varvara Lepchenko will compete against Germany’s Julia Goerges.
On the men’s side, Andy Roddick has been able to hang on in his Olympic appearance. He has not had the best season thus far, and will face a tough matchup against world number two-ranked Novak Djokovic in his match tomorrow. In another American vs. Serbian matchup, John Isner, the second American male who remains in the draw, will face Janko Tipsarevic.
As for doubles, the Bryan Brothers won their opener and will most likely face Nikoly Davydenko & Mikael Youzhny in the next round. Davydenko & Youzny had their match was rescheduled due to rain. On the women’s side, the William Sisters and the team of Liezel Huber & Lisa Raymond both remain in the draw. Again their opponent’s matches were rescheduled due to rain so they await their second round opponents.
Tomorrow will be another big day for the Americans as they try to reach the Medal Ceremony.
