Maui Jim has announced the addition of  WTA Tennis Professional Flavia Pennetta to its roster of players who will wear the company’s PolarizedPlus2 sunglasses. Other ambassadors on Maui Jim’s roster include WTA Pro Martina Hingis and ATP Pros David Ferrer, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Benoît Paire.

Pennetta is known for her enthusiastic playing style and outspoken nature on the court. From Brindisi, Italy, Pennetta is currently the 25th-ranked singles player and 16th-ranked doubles player with new partner Hsieh Su-Wei. Penetta started playing the game at the age of five and has gone on to become Italy's first top-10 female singles player (2009); and also the first Italian tennis player to be ranked num,ber one in Doubles (2011).

“I am incredibly excited to be partnering with Maui Jim,” said Pennetta. “ I discovered Maui Jim a few years ago and I became a fan instantly, the quality is simply the best. What I love about Maui Jim is that they have a great sports selection which is good for when I am training and also their fashion line is beautiful. I am very proud to become a Maui Jim ambassador and to be joining an impeccable group of sporting ambassadors.”

Coached by Salvador Navarr, Pennetta has won 10 career WTA  singles titles, including the 2014 Indian Wells Premier Mandatory, during which she defeated the top two seeds, both of whom were ranked in the top three. She is also part of the Fed Cup team, helping to win all four of Italy's titles (2006, 2009-2010 & 2013). Pennetta also is one of only seven women to beat Venus Williams three consecutive times.

In doubles play, Pennetta won her first Grand Slam title at the 2011 Australian Open with partner Gisela Dulko; and also reached the 2005 U.S. Open finals with Elena Dementieva and 2014 U.S. Open finals with Maui Jim Ambassador Martina Hingis. The new team of Penetta & Hsieh advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2015 Mutua Madrid Open.

“Over the past year, we have worked to expand our relationship with professional tennis players,” said Martijn Van Eerde, Maui Jim’s marketing director, Europe. “Flavia is a terrific player and is fun to watch. Over the years, many players, coaches and line judges have discovered the benefits of our PolarizedPlus2 sunglass lens technologies to improve their views of the game.”

Pennetta, who has been testing Maui Jim’s lenses, wears some of the company’s most popular styles for women. Playing tennis, depending on the weather, she uses Makaha because they offer high-performance features that make them stable and comfortable to wear during long days on the court. To make a fashion statement off the court, she wears Kawiki.
