Andy Murray has advanced on to the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters after Julien Benneteau suffered an injury to his ankle and retired. The first set ended with a score of 6-5. The Frenchman was in control of many of the rallies which troubled Murray. Benneteau went on to receive a lengthy treatment prior to retiring.

Murray now goes onto compete against Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, who had recovered from a lost first set to defeat Kei Nishikori of Japan, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

"[It will be] tough," said Murray of his next-round opponent Berdych. "Sometimes the match is kind of on his racquet a little bit because he has so much power. But if you can keep the ball to a good length, get him moving, which isn’t the easiest thing to do, but if you can do that, that’s where he’s not so comfortable. So that’s what you need to try and do against him."
