Murray Shocks Djokovic to Face Federer in Olympic Finals

Andy Murray has ended Great Britain’s 100-year wait for an Olympic men’s singles tennis medal by reaching the gold medal match at the London 2012 Olympics. Murray, seeded number three, defeated second-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic 7-5, 7-5 on Friday to qualify for the Men’s Singles Finals where he will meet Switzerland’s Roger Federer. It will be a rematch of the 2012 Wimbledon Finals, a match won by Federer 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
The 25-year-old Murray will attempt to better the achievement of Charles Dixon, who won the silver medal for Great Britain at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics in Indoor Tennis.
Murray had lost eight of his 13 meetings with Djokovic, including a five-setter in the semifinals of this year’s Australian Open in January.
