Great Britain’s Andy Murray advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2012 U.S. Open on Monday, defeating Canada’s Milos Raonic in their night session match at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The third-seeded Murray, seeking his first Grand Slam title, easily dispatched of the 15th-seeded Raonic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

"I tried everything. I tried three different ways. I tried playing back, playing high to him. I tried coming in a lot. Everything really," said Raonic. "I didn’t have solutions all the time. But he would put it together for a game."

The win meant that Murray has now reached his eighth consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal match. Next up for Murray is 12th seeded Milan Cilic, who beat Slovakian Martin Klizan 7-5, 6-4, 6-0 in his fourth round match on Monday. Murray is 6-1 lifetime against Cilic, with his only loss coming in the fourth round of the 2009 U.S. Open.

"You need to make sure your focus stays there," said Murray recapping his match with Raonic. "The matches are obviously only going to get tougher. So it’s good to play a match like that at this stage of the tournament. It gives me some confidence going into the next round because I didn’t feel great after the last round. You just need to make sure you’re ready for whatever your opponent is going to bring and try and get the win."
