Nadal and Wozniacki Among Those Who Advance in Indian Wells

Rafael Nadal defeated Ryan Sweeting, 6-3, 6-1, in third-round action of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. Also advancing was top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark on the women’s side, as she defeated Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain, 6-1, 6-3. Also on the women’s side, Dinara Safina defeated the number four seed and 2010 BNP Paribas Open semifinalist Samantha Stosur, 7-6 (2), 6-4.

Also advancing in the men’s side are Sam Querrey, who defetaed Fernando Verdasco, 7-5, 6-4; Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, who upset Robin Soderling of Sweden, 7-6 (8), 6-4; Albert Montanes of Spain, who defeated his fellow countryman Nicolas Almagro, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4; Tommy Robredo of Spain advanced with a 6-0, 6-4 win over American Donald Young; Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine, 7-6 (3), 6-3; and qualifier Somdev Devvarman of India was victorious over Xavier Malisse from Belgium, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5).

Other women’s winners included Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, Maria Sharapova, Nadia Petrova and Alisa Kleybanova.
