It seems almost automatic that once the French Open starts, you know at least who one of the finalists will be. For a sixth time, Spain’s Rafael Nadal is headed into the finals of the French Open. The world number one-ranked player took out the fourth seed, Andy Murray of Great Britain, in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals today. Murray, who has only been able to beat Nadal four times in 15 matches, was no match for the five-time champion on this day. Heavy conditions allowed Nadal to grind as usual, taking the long and important rallies of the match.
Nadal, who has never lost in the finals at Roland Garros will look to go six for six when he faces either Serbia’s Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer of Switzerland. Nadal has succumbed to defeat at the hands of Djokovic four consecutive matches, but has beaten Federer in their past two matches. Either way, you know Nadal is up for the challenge no matter who his opponent is. All eyes now turn to Federer and Djokovic with the Serbian’s 43 match winning streak on the line.
