After kicking an advertising board and injuring a line judge at the Queen’s Club final, David Nalbandian was placed under police investigation for assault and fined $12,560 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Along with paying a fine for conduct, the ATP confirmed that Nalbandian will not receive his $57,350 in prize money. Nalbandian was defaulted from Sunday’s final against Marin Cilic and London police are now investigating a complaint of assault filed against him. Police will not discuss who made the complaint, but anyone present at the event or watching on television could make one, along with the injured line’s judge himself.

Nalbandian lost his temper when he lost serve, falling behind 3-4 in the second set. He had already won the first set in tiebreak 7-6(3). He kicked the board that was under the chair of line judge Andrew McDougall when he missed a running forehand on game point. McDougall was left with a bloody inch-long gash when a piece of the board cut his left shin.

Any violent action results in an automatic default, states the ATP rules. Nalbandian insists that he should not have been disqualified and is still scheduled to play later this month at Wimbledon.
