Germany’s Andrea Petkovic has withdrawn from Wimbledon because she has yet to fully recover from a serious right ankle injury. Wimbledon will mark the third Grand Slam that Petkovic has been forced to miss after sitting out the French Open and the Australian Open.

"Unfortunately, I will not be able to return in time for Wimbledon this year," said Petkovic. "While this is another setback in my return, I will continue to work hard on getting back on court as soon as possible."

Petkovic has been out of action since January due to a lower back injury. In her comeback tournament in Stuttgart, she suffered a right ankle injury. Petkovic is the only player on the WTA Tour to make it to the quarterfinals or better at three of the four Grand Slams. Petkovic finished 2011 ranked number 10 in the world. She has fallen to 18th in the WTA Singles Rankings.
