Plainedge Caps Perfect 14-0 Season With First Conference IV Championship

The Plainedge Red Devils completed a perfect 14-0 season in 2014 yesterday, defeating New Hyde Park 4-3 to capture its first Conference IV Championship since 2006. The two top teams in the conference battled throughout the match, with the deciding victory coming at first singles.

The Red Devils were able to get key wins in its doubles matchups. At second doubles, Austin Caradonna & Zach Devlin disposed of Armaan Shah & Eshraq Islam 6-0, 6-1 to put Plainedge in front. Dylan Pagan & Kyle Oleksak beat Joshua Rajan & Navin Rana 6-1, 6-1 at third doubles, while Jin Zhang & Jake Devlin took down Alex Duong & John Mathai at fourth doubles 6-2, 6-1.

While the doubles tandems led the way for Plainedge, New Hyde Park was able to pick up victories in the singles matchups. Needing one win in singles to clinch the Conference Championship, Zach Chang stepped up for Plainedge. The senior captain was undefeated all season at first singles, and maintained that perfect individual record to defeat Zack Imperial, 6-3, 7-5, to clinch the match for Plainedge.
