Port Washington Continues Rolling, Beats Manhasset For 10th Straight Win

The Nassau County Conference I  leading Vikings of Port Washington continued its winning streak on Monday afternoon, beating Manhasset 7-0 to win its 10thconsecutive match and maintain its grip on first place in the county’s top conference.

Port Washington got consistent play from all seven of its flights, anchored by the 7-5, 7-5 win by Casey Fanous and Charlotte Forman at second doubles.  

With a 10-1 record, Port Washington still remains one game ahead of Great Neck North in the standings. The Blazers won its fourth straight match on Monday, beating Cold Spring Harbor 6-1 to improve to 9-2 on the season. Shannon Nassi and Amy Shteyman led the way with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Julia Stingi and Lily O’Donnell at third doubles.

Roslyn moved to 8-2 with a 5-2 triumph over North Shore to remain in third place in Conference 1. It will look to pull even with Great Neck North when it plays Syosset on Tuesday in a match that was interrupted due to darkness last week. 

Syosset got back on the winning track on Monday, downing Friends Academy 7-0 behind the first singles of Jessie Levy, who defeated Grace Riviezzo 6-2, 6-4.

“I feel like today was my strongest performance of the season,” said Levy. “I was happy to get the win and despite struggling a bit this year, I am confident I can close the season strong.”

Erica Engel and Samantha Zeltser helped Great Neck South win for the fifth time in its last six matches, winning their second doubles match 7-6(2), 6-3 to lead the Lady Rebels past Herricks. Great Neck South now sits at 9-2 on the season.

In Suffolk County, some teams, including Commack and Islip, held Senior Days on Monday, honoring the dedication and commitment that its seniors have made to the program.

Commack defeated Huntington 7-0 to improve to 8-2 in League 1 as Lauren Katz and Tasneem Zahran notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at third doubles. Islip remained unbeaten in League 3 with a 7-0 victory against West Babylon, led by Julia Hormann’s 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles.
