Querrey Beats Isner in Cincinnati

American Sam Querrey upset his 11th-seeded compatriot John Isner on Tuesday, moving into the second-round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati with a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory.

Querrey broke twice in his three chances in the first set to take the opener 6-3. In the second set, Querrey outlasted Isner in the tie-breaker to upend the top-ranked American in straight sets.

Querrey moves on to play Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the next-round. Robredo beat fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 on Tuesday.

Richard Gasquet dismantled Nick Kyrgios 6-2, 6-1, breaking the Australian four times in six chances for the routine victory. The 12th-seeded Frenchman saved both break points he faced and will play Kyrgios’ buddy, Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis next. Kokkinakis came back from a set down to beat Fabio Fognini on Monday night.

Fernando Verdasco took out France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, coming back from a set down for the 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.

Fifteenth-seed Kevin Anderson and 16th-seed Grigor Dimitrov advanced on Tuesday as well.

In a battle of teenagers, Borna Coric outlasted Alexander Zverev 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(5). The Croatian will battle with fifth-seeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the second-round.
