Results From BNP Paribas Open Quarterfinal Action at Indian Wells

Stosur, Jankovic, Nadal and Ljubicic all advance to semis

On Thursday at the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif., Samantha Stosur (Australia) deafeated Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (Spain) 6-3 7-6(7) in one women’s Quarterfinal match and Jelena Jankovic (Serbia) knocked off Alisa Kleybanova (Russia) 6-4 6-4 in the other to reach the semifinals. This is Jankovic’s best showing in 2010 and her first appearance in the semis at Indian Wells since 2008. Jankovic will now face Stosur in one semifinal while second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, will meet in the other semifinal.

On the men’s side Thursday, in quarterfinal play Rafael Nadal (Spain) beat Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic) 6-4 7-6(4) in the men’s night match. This was Nadal’s sixth consectutive time. In the day session, Ivan Ljubicic (Croatia) defeated Juan Monaco (Argentina) 4-6 6-2 6-1. Nadal and Ljubicic will now face off in the semifinals.
