Robby Ginepri Advances at BNP Paribas Open

Robby Ginepri has become the first American to win a spot into the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. after defeating Paoli Lorenzi of Italy in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Ginepri, was later joined by Sam Querrey, who defeated fellow American Tim Smyczek in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. Other Americans that were sent home in the first round included Jack Sock, Jesse Levine, and Rhyne Williams.
Ryan Harrison, a 19-year-old from Florida, defeated Flavio Cipolla in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The match took just 58-minutes and proved why he is one of America’s rising stars. Lukasz Kubot of Poland defeated Ivo Karlovic in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
On the women’s side of play, Irina Falconi of the United States won her first round match. Jelena Dokic retired after just one game due to a right wrist injury. Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 after being out of play for over a month with a hip and lower back injury.
