As play got underway today at the AEGON Championships in London, England, Andy Roddick of the United States made quick work of Spain’s Fernando Verdasco, 6-2, 6-2. Many spectators were expected to see a battle between the two big hitters, but it was pretty one-sided from the start. Roddick, who now owns a 10-3 record over Verdasco after today, fell to the Spaniard the last time they met in the San Jose finals. Roddick is now through to the semifinals where he will do battle with another Andy, Great Britain’s Andy Murray who clinched his spot in the semis without even having to step foot on the courts for his quarterfinal matchup. Croatia’s Marin Cilic was forced to retire prior to the match citing a knee injury that occurred during the previous night, thus giving Murray the pass to the quarters.

Roddick is a four-time champion at the AEGON Championships, with titles coming in ’03, ’04, ’05 and ’07. The American will have his hands full though, as he is 3-6 lifetime against Murray. However, Roddick did win their last meeting, which came at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships, where he defetaed Murray in four sets. The winner of this match will be expected to do battle with world number one-ranked Rafael Nadal of Spain who looks to get through his quarterfinal matchup today against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.
