Andy Roddick has announced that he has overcome a bout of mononucleosis and looks to improve upon his number eight ranking as the ATP Tour begins its 2011 schedule.
“For me it’s just a matter of getting right, getting healthy,” Roddick said. “I battled sickness for a big part of last year and from there I just felt like I was playing catch-up.
Roddick was eliminated early on in the U.S. Open, French Open and at Wimbledon as he struggled with the illness, but is gearing up for the upcoming Brisbane International, set for Jan. 2-9, 2011 at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson Brisbane, Australia. Roddick, seeded second for the Brisbane International behind world number four-ranked Robin Soderling of Sweden, will use the Brisbane event to fine tune his game for the 2011 Australian Open, set for Jan. 17-30, 2011 at Melbourne Park.
“It’s the first time I’ve felt right since last May so when you are fit it takes a lot of the mental pressure off,” Roddick said. “You feel like you can play any way you want so I feel fresh and I feel enthused and ready.”
