Ross Hutchins has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The 27-year-old went 36-24 this past season, partnering countryman Colin Fleming to two ATP World Tour doubles titles in Delray Beach and Eastbourne. They also reached the semifinals at the Shanghai Rolex Masters and were the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals alternates.

“Over the Christmas period, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma,” Hutchins said. “This came as a shock, but I am ready to move forward with the necessary treatment. I have the best medical support at Royal Marsden and very close family and friends supporting me. I look forward to getting over this hurdle and getting back to the ATP [World] Tour and full steam ahead with my tennis career.”

Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) CEO Roger Draper said, “Everyone in British Tennis is behind Ross. He is a true ambassador for the sport both on and off the court, and I have no doubt he will overcome this setback. Its important that we give Ross and his family the privacy they need during this challenging time.”

The WTA’s Alisa Kleybanova recently beat the disease, returning to play the Sony Open Tennis in March 2012 after a 10-month absence from competition. She opted to take the rest of the season off to build up her stamina and intends to make another comeback in 2013.
