Rubin Wins Plantation Futures Opener; Graham Qualifies in Rancho Santa Fe

A couple of Long Islanders are making waves this week on the pro circuit, as Noah Rubin won his opener at the USA F8 FuturesMen’s 10K in Plantation, Florida while Alexa Graham won three matches to qualify for the Rancho Santa Fe 25K.
Rubin defeated Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-1 on Tuesday at the Frank Veltri Tennis Centre.
Rubin, who notched big wins at both the Australian Open and Delray Beach, explained to Zoo Tennis his decision to compete in this Future’s event.
“I think there’s a lot to work on here. I haven’t played a clay-court tournament since the Junior French Open in 2014,” he told Zoo Tennis. “That’s a year and a half. So I think I have a lot to gain mentally from this tournament, more than anything else. I think I hit the ball well, moved well.”
In the next round, Rubin will take on the winner of Patrick Kypson and Patricio Heras.
Out in California, Garden City’s Alexa Graham came back from a set down to defeat Canada’s Francoise Abanda 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(0) and qualify for the Morgan Run Women’s Open 25K in Rancho Santa Fe.
Graham will take on fellow American Vania King in the opening round of the main draw.
