Serena Williams scored her 59th career match win at the 2013 Sony Open in Miami, defeating Li Na out in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals. Serena awaits the winner of the match between Agnieszka Radwanska and Kirsten Flipkens to determine her semifinal opponent. She was already tied with Steffi Graf for the record of most titles in Miami.
"She plays so well—we always have such intense matches," Serena said. "I love it—she always improves, and that always keeps me motivated. I just had to get more consistent and hang in there."
Serena is now tied with Graf for both Sony Open Tennis records—most titles with five, most match wins with 59. The third-most match wins goes to three-time champion Venus Williams with 52. Li, who was playing her first event since Australia due to an ankle injury.
