For the fourth time this tournament, Serena Williams dug herself a first set hold, but found her way back home, defeating 23rd seeded Swiss Timea Bacsinszky 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to reach the French Open final.

Serena’s slow start can be attributed to her feeling under the weather. The world number one admitted to developing the flu after her third round match in Paris.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been this sick,” said Serena. “I didn’t expect to win that. I can’t believe I won.”

Also making things difficult for Serena was the aggressive nature in which Bacsinszky started the match. After taking the first set, she broke in the second set to take a 3-2 advantage.

But from there, Serena turned on the switch and reeled off the next 10 games of the match to close out the Swiss.

Because of her illness, Serena postponed her post-match press conference in order to see the tournament doctor.

“I tried everything. I thought if I lose, I will lose with a fight,” she said to the crowd after the match. “I tried, I tried. I found the energy. I don’t know where, but I found it. And I won. I hope that on Saturday, I hope.”

Serena will play Lucie Safarova in Saturday’s final.
