Serena Overwhelms Suarez-Navarro for 8th Miami Title

Serena Williams put on a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, beating Spaniard Carla Suarez-Navarro 6-2, 6-0 to win the eighth Miami Open title of her career.
It did not look as if Serena would blow out Suarez-Navarro early on as both players exchanged holds through the first four games. With the opening set even at 2-2, Serena won the next 10 games, losing just 14 points total in those games, to run away with the straight-set victory.
It was just the power that allowed Serena to cruise past Suarez-Navarro. She mixed up her strategy a bit, throwing in some slower serves and focusing on accuracy.
“I improvised today,” said Serena. “I took some pace off to get my first serve in and it worked for me, because I haven’t been serving in this tournament the way I would like to. Improvising was healthy.”
Serena needed just 56 minutes to capture her eighth title in Miami. She becomes only the fourth player to win a WTA event eight or more times.
“It feels really good to have eight under my belt,” said Serena. “Can’t say I thought I would win eight, especially in the beginning of the week. It just feels really weird.”
Despite the tough loss, Suarez-Navarro enjoyed a fantastic week in Miami. Her run to the final, which saw her take out Agnieszka Radwanska, Venus Williams and Andrea Petkovic, puts her into the top 10 for the first time in her career.
Serena has yet to lose a match thus far in 2015.
In the women's doubles final, Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza continued their perfect start together as a doubles tandem, beating Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 7-5, 6-1.
The two are now 10-0 together, having not even lost a set in those matches, and have won the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments back to back.
