Robin Soderling of Sweden will miss the 2012 Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, as he fights off the effects of mononucleosis. He has not played a match since mid-July.

"My recovery has been longer than expected," said Soderling via his Twitter account, @RSoderling. "I am feeling better with each day, but it will take some time before I can start practicing in full speed. My goal is to start with practice in January and I hope for a tournament comeback in February but at this stage it is hard to know when and where. I hope my body will allow me to do that."

Soderling is currently the 13th-ranked men’s player and a two-time French Open runner-up.
