SPORTIME/JMTA and JMTP Announce Ninth Annual JMTA/JMTP Long Island Scholarship Tryouts on June 22

For the ninth year, young hopefuls from across Long Island will have the opportunity to try out to earn full or partial scholarships to play at JMTA. This year is the first that the tryout will be held at SPORTIME Port Washington, formerly the Port Washington Tennis Academy.
SPORTIME is nearing the completion of an $8.5M renovation and modernization project to restore and improve the iconic facility. SPORTIME/JMTA Coaches will award full and partial scholarships to selected tryout participants for the 2024-25 JMTA indoor season at SPORTIME Port Washington and at SPORTIME Syosset, JMTA’s two central Long Island locations.
Open only to players with tennis experience, ages 6-17, the tryout will take place on Saturday, June 22nd, 2023, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, with check-in at 4:30 PM. Registration closes June 15th, 2024. Participants will be evaluated by a Selection Committee of SPORTIME/JMTA directors, coaches and leaders, including JMTA Executive Director Patrick McEnroe, Michael Kossoff, JMTA Long Island Regional Director and Jay Harris, JMTA Port Washington Director. The tryout will include tennis drills and point/match play.
“It is very exciting to have launched the John McEnroe Tennis Academy at the former site of the Port Washington Tennis Academy, now SPORTIME Port Washington, and to be hosting our Long Island tryout there,” said Patrick McEnroe, Executive Director of JMTA. “John and I and many other world-class players trained there as juniors, and we are thrilled to be able to develop a new generation of players at our old stomping grounds, now fully renovated. I urge anyone who is interested in learning more about JMTA Long Island to attend the tryout on June 22nd.”
Scholarship winners will be notified by July 31, 2024. Means testing is a requirement for JMTP funded scholarships, so winners will be required to submit requisite financial information prior to final award.
