Sportime Roslyn to Host Talbert Cup

The Talbert Cup, an annual event established in 1986 by the Eastern Tennis Association in honor of the Hall of Fame player and longtime friend of tennis, Bill Talbert, will take place this year Friday-Saturday, May 19-20 at Sportime Roslyn, located on Landing Road in Roslyn, N.Y. The event will begin on Friday at 11:00 a.m. and run thorugh 6:00 p.m. The action picks back up the following day at 9:30 a.m. and will run through 4:30 p.m. The format for the 2011 Talbert Cup will be six singles and three doubles, with each team playing a full two out of three set match with add (new balls for a third set).

Bill Talbert was the winner of more than 60 national and international tennis doubles championships, twice runner-up of the U.S. Singles Tennis Championships, five times captain of the U.S. Davis Cup Team, author of seven books on tennis, and tournament director and chairman of the 1970, 1971, 1972, and 1973 U.S. Open tennis tournaments. Men ages 35 and over from the USTA’s Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, Middle States and New England sections compete for the cup,and play a team match to retain the rights to hold onto the Cup, as well as have everyone’s names etched into the cup itself.
