On Day Four of the 2010 U.S. Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, number one women’s seed Caroline Wozniacki wasted no time getting out of the heat and off the court in her second round match against Taipei’s Chang Kai-Chen. Wozniacki didn’t drop a game and dispatched Kai-Chen quickly and efficiently, 6-0, 6-0.

Also winning in straight sets on the women’s side was Maria Sharapova who defeated Ivana Benesova, 6-1, 6-2 to get one step closer to a much anticipated fourth round match with Caroline Wozniacki. Before getting there though Sharapova will have to get through 18-year-old American Beatrice Capra. Capra, ranked 371st in the world, upset 18th-seeded Aravane Rezai of France, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 on the Grandstand.

Fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic struggled a bit but moved on by defeating 28-year-old Croatian Mirjana Lucic, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in a match that lasted over two hours.

Vera Zvonareva and Svetlana Kuznetsova won in straight sets. Ninth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska was upset by Shaui Peng of China in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

On the men’s side, Roger Federer made quick work of German Andreas Beck, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Federer was never broken in the match and faced just two break points in three sets.

Third-seeded Novak Djokovic won in straight sets in night’s final match under the lights over German Phillipp Petzschner, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6.

The number five seed Robin Soderling of Sweden defeated American Taylor Dent in their second round match, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.

Mardy Fish became the first American man to move on to the third round at this year’s U.S. Open as he cruised to a 7-5, 6-0, 6-2 win over Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas. A few hours later, another American James Blake also moved to the third round as he defeated Peter Polansky, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

Two top seeds did fall THursday though as sixth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko was upset by former top 10 player but now unranked Richard Gasquet. Gasquet now ranked 38th, won easily in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Marin Cilic of Croatia, the 11th seed was defeated by Kei Nishikori Kei Nishikor Kei Nishikori in atough five set match. The Japanese, ranked 147 in the world, won 5-7, 7-6(6), 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.

Weather permitting, Day Five will bring more big names and storylines to the forefront. Rafael Nadal and Venus Williams will highlight the night session, while Americans John Isner, Sam Querrey and Ryan Harrison will all be in action during the day session.
