Tennis Channel Lets Viewers Set the Schedule With its “You Make the Call” Series
A network holiday tradition, Tennis Channel is letting fans relive the best moments of the tennis season this month when it replays 10 of the year’s singles championship matches as part of its annual You Make the Call year-end series. Rather than airing the men’s and women’s matches in chronological order, the network has turned its programming schedule over to its audience from Dec. 20-31, and will present the matches as a countdown to the one match viewers selected as their favorite of 2010. Not surprisingly given the players’ recent history, the only match between superstars Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer this year, at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, was selected as the top championship match of 2010, by viewers who voted on the network’s Web site.
The countdown will begin on Monday, Dec. 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET, with match No. 10 on the viewers’ list – the singles battle with the least online fan votes. The You Make the Call series wraps up with the top vote recipient – Federer vs. Nadal – on New Year’s Eve, Friday, Dec., 31, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Each match will air twice in its entirety, at 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. ET.
The online fan and viewer poll, which was conducted during November and early December, asked visitors to select their favorite match from among the eight men’s and women’s Grand Slam singles finals, plus the year-end men’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and women’s WTA Championships.
