Three Locals Advance in U.S. Open National Playoffs Eastern Sectional Qualifier

Three Long Islanders have advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Open National Playoffs Eastern Sectional Qualifying. At 1:00 p.m. today, Jennifer Kellner of Smithtown, N.Y. will face off with fellow Long Islander Nikola Hubnerova of Syosset, N.Y. The winner will face the winner of the second semifinal, which will feature Long Island’s third representative in the semis, Julia Elbaba of Oyster Bay, N.Y., as she will take on Katerina Sevicova of Yonkers, N.Y.
Both matches, as well as the finals, will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The winner of the U.S. Open National Playoffs Eastern Sectional tournament will advance to the next phase of qualifing in their attempt to wind up back in Flushing come late August to fulfill their dream of playing in the U.S. Open.
