American Frances Tiafoe won the third ATP Tour title of his career on Sunday as he defeated Jam-Lennard Struff 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(8) to win the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, Germany.
Tiafoe fought back from a set down and saved one championship point to pull off the victory.
“That tie-break was wild. It was back and forth, crazy point at 6/5. It was neck and neck,” Tiafoe said. “He served so well, I wasn’t able to break for three sets but I stayed with and I could not be happier with my effort. I have now won a title on all three surfaces. It shows I am a complete player and when I am locked in I can compete on all three surfaces.”
The win catapults Tiafoe into the Top 10 of the ATP World Tour Rankings, moving up to No. 10.
He joins Taylor Fritz, No. 8, as American men in the Top 10, marking the first time since May 2012 (Mardy Fish and John Isner) that two Americans are inside the ATP’s Top 10.
