Tipsarevic Advances to Round Three of BNP Paribas Masters

Janko Tipsarevic kept alive his bid to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday when he advanced to the BNP Paribas Masters third round. Eighth seed Tipsarevic defeated Dutch qualifier Igor Sijsling 6-4, 7-6(0) for his 30th hard-court match win of the season (56-24 overall record). Fellow London hopeful Nicolas Almagro also remained in contention, battling past compatriot Albert Ramos 7-6(1), 6-7(4), 6-3 to set up a third-round clash with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the 2008 champion. Tsonga will qualify for the circuit finale if he beats Almagro.

Fourth-seeded David Ferrer, who has already qualified for the season-ending championships, is one match win from equaling his best performance in Paris. Ferrer, a quarterfinalists in 2005, defeated his fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-1, 6-3. He has won an ATP World Tour-best six titles this year. Ninth-seeded Juan Monaco, the recent Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur champion, improved to 3-0 lifetime against Bulgarian qualifier Grigor Dimitrov after a 7-6(4), 6-2 win.

France’s Richard Gasquet, the number 12 seed and 2007 semifinalist, saw his perfect record against Kevin Anderson come to an end when the South African won 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-1. Anderson won 75 percent of his service points and hit 13 aces.
