The Micromax Indian Aces improved to 8-1 in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) on Tuesday, defeating the Phillipine Mavericks 30-17 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.

The first set up was the Men’s Legends Singles contest, as Rohan Bopanna had to fill in for a sick Fabrice Santoro for the Aces. Bopanna came up huge, downing American James Blake 6-0 thanks to seven unforced errors off of Blake’s racquet.

With that win at hand, the rest of the Aces did their due diligence to close out the Mavericks. Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska was up next and broke her opponent Ajla Tomljanovic twice to take the Women’s Singles set 6-4, and give the Aces a comfortable lead.

In the Mixed Doubles set, India’s Sania Mirza paired up with Croatia’s Ivan Dodig to defeat Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Jarmila Gajdosova 6-4 to just about wrap things up.

“We’re hungry to win each time we step out on the court as a team,” said Mirza. “We’re more or less the same team as last year, with a few additions and subtractions. That said, we play to win, and are happy with our performance today.”

Bopanna paired up with Dodig to knock off Roger-Vasselin and Treat Huey 6-5 in a tiebreaker in the Men’s Doubles set, and Australia’s Bernard Tomic wrapped things up with a 6-4 victory over Ivo Karlovic in the Men’s Singles set.
