Tsonga and Murray Into Miami’s Round of 16

Second seed Andy Murray improved to 3-0 against Grigor Dimitrov after a 7-6(3), 6-3 win in the third round of the Sony Open Tennis in Miami. Murray, the 2009 champion in Miami, saved two set points on his serve at 2-5 in the first set, before rallying to post his second victory against Dimitrov this season. The third-ranked Murray is seeking his ninth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown and first since 2011, when he tasted victory in Shanghai. Murray will play the 16 seed Andreas Seppi in the Round of 16, as Seppi defeated Thomaz Bellucci 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reached the Round of 16 in Miami as well after his 6-3, 6-3 win over Jarkko Nieminen. Tsonga broke his opponent three times and won 20 more points in the match to seal the win. Tsonga upped his lifetime record to 4-2 against Nieminen in their head-to-head series. Tsonga will next face the ninth seeded Marin Cilic, a 6-3, 7-6(3) winner over American John Isner. Cilic and Tsonga have split their two previous meetings. Tsonga won their most recent encounter in the first round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati two years ago.
World number 10 Richard Gasquet advanced to the fourth round, defeating Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4. Gasquet will next face the10th seeded Nicolas Almagro for a spot in the quarterfinals, after Almagro’s win over David Goffin, 6-3, 6-4.
Tomas Berdych defeated Alejandro Falla 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 and will play top-ranked American Sam Querrey who advanced when Milos Raonic withdrew prior to their third-round meeting with an illness.
