Former semifinalist Coco Vandeweghe has been awarded a wildcard into the 2020 Australian Open after winning the USTA Wild Card Challenge.

Vandeweghe, who reached the final four in Melbourne in 2017, knocked off three seeded players en route to the finals of the Oracle Challenger Series in Houston last week, with her 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Stefanie Voegele in the semifinals sealing her spot atop the Wild Card Challenge standings.

Injuries forced Vandeweghe to miss significant time between 2018 and 2019. But after returning to the court, the New York City native has reached two finals, and will compete in the main draw of the Australian Open next year.

Former NCAA Singles Champion, Marcos Giron clinched the men’s wild card, winning the ATP Challenger event in Houston this past weekend, coming back from a 1-6 deficit in the third-set tiebreaker to beat Ivo Karlovic 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 in the finals.
