Venus & Serena Williams are eager to defend their Olympic Doubles Title at the Summer 2012 Olympics in London. The American duo are in pursuit of their third trip to the top of Olympic podium and a medal ceremony, after gold medal runs in both Sydney in 2000 and 2008 in Beijing. The only hiccup for the Williams Sisters was in 2004 when Serena was forced to miss out with an injured knee. Venus took home the gold in women’s singles in 2000 as well.
Serena continues her comeback after an injury-plagued 2011 that saw her slip in the WTA rankings to 104th. She fought back valiantly and made it to the finals of the 2011 U.S. Open, falling in defeat to Australian Samantha Stosur, 2-6, 3-6. Venus has been out of action since withdrawing from the U.S. Open in September after being diagnosed with Sjogren’s syndrome, an immune disease that causes fatigue and joint pain. Venus looks to return to action at next month’s Australian Open in Melbourne.
"The goal is to come back in Australia," said Venus. "I’m taking each day at a time. When I feel good, I feel really happy. Today I feel really good, so it’s a great day."
