Venus Williams dominated Alize Cornet on Friday, rolling past the eighth-seed from France 6-1, 6-1 to reach the Hong Kong Tennis Open semifinals.

The third-seeded American converted on all six of her break point chances and never gave Cornet any hope of getting into the match.

“It’s never easy,” said Venus. “We had some tough games I was able to win, which helped there not to be big momentum swings—like instead of 1-all in the second set, it’s 2-0. Instead of 2-all in the first set, it’s 3-1. Those were hard games that helped me keep the momentum and confidence on my side.”

In the semifinals, Venus will take on fourth-seeded Serb Jelena Jankovic, who cruised past the sixth-seeded Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 6-1 on Friday.

Second-seeded German Angelique Kerber rolled past seventh-seed Caroline Garcia 7-5, 6-3 to book her spot in the semifinals on Friday.

Kerber will take on fifth-seeded Australian Samantha Stosur in the final four. Stosur battled back from a set down to beat Heather Watson 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
