Women Kick Off the Action in Indian Wells

The 2014 BNP Paribas Open kicked off at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, as the women took center stage. In opening round action, it was Peng Shuai who was a 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 winner over 2009 Indian Wells winner, Vera Zvonareva. Shuai will face Canadian Eugenie Bouchard in round two. Bouchard, who turned 20 last week, received a first round bye.
Other main draw opening round winners included Madison Keys, Heather Watson, Lauren Davis, Yvonne Meusburger, Bojana Jovanovski, Kurumi Nara, Annika Beck, Varvara Lepchenko, Yanina Wickmayer, Sílvia Soler-Espinosa, Kristina Mladenovic, and qualifiers Yaroslava Shvedova, Casey Dellacqua, Sharon Fichman and American wild card Shelby Rogers.
Watson will next face the number two seed Agnieszka Radwanska, while Davis will next meet the number three seed, Victoria Azarenka.
