Wozniacki and Ivanovic to Meet for Quarterfinals Spot at Indian Wells

Defending women’s BNP Paribas Open champion Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark defeated Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, in the third round action on Monday in Indian Wells, Calif. Wozniacki initially struggled to start the match, but found her form to break her opponent three times in the final set and seal victory in two hours, 37 min.
“I knew it was going to be a tough match,” said Wozniacki. “I’ve known Sophia since I was 12 or 13 and we know each other’s games so well. She just came out from a win in Memphis and I knew she was on fire. I’m so happy with this win."
The former world number one-ranked Wozniacki advances to the quarterfinals where she will face Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic, a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 winner against Kazakhstan’s Ksenia Pervak. The 15th-seeded Serbian dropped her opening service game in the third set, but came back to win the next four games and broke Pervak for the eighth time in the match to take the two-hour, 55-min. match.
Ivanovic and Wozniacki have split their previous four meetings. Ivanovic won the first two in 2008 at the Australian Open and French Open, while Wozniacki won in 2010 at Beijing and last month in Dubai.
“I would actually really like a rematch because I felt like I was quite close in Dubai, but we both started off really nervous,” said Ivanovic. “The quality of the match was a little bit up and down.”
