Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark had to win two tie-breakers against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic in her two-and-a-half hour match at the Family Circle Cup, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (9). Wozniacki took a 4-1 lead in the opening set against Strycova as Strycova conversed with her coach to re-work her strategy. The chat worked as Zahlavova Strycova held serve twice to force the tie-breaker.

Wozniacki will meet sixth-seeded Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium, for a trip to the Family Circle Cup semifinals, held at Daniel island in Charleston, N.C.

Number eight-ranked Jelena Jankovic defeated Chanelle Scheepers, 6-2, 6-2. Jankovic will next face 18-year-old Christina McHale on Friday. McHale, the last American in the singles draw, defeated Daniela Hantuchova, 7-6 (3), 6-1.
