Caroline Wozniacki, the number seven seed at the 2013 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, was upset by Carla Suárez Navarro, 7-6(6), 6-1 in opening round action. Wozniacki led 3-0 in the first set and was two points from taking it with Suárez Navarro serving 4-5, 0-30, but the Spaniard hung tough every time and won the opening set.
Also in the opening round, Petra Kvitova, the number five-seed, came out of an early 4-1 deficit to take the first set, then dropped the second set and faced points for a 3-1 deficit in the third before regrouping and making it past Annika Beck, 7-5, 6-7(0), 6-3.
