Tennis Channel … Really?
Forgive me if I’m slightly underwhelmed by the news as reported by Longislandtennismagazine.com that the Tennis Channel will have, "Thirteen Days of Televised Match Coverage for Australian Open." It’s a reminder that since last September, very few Long Island households get the Tennis Channel since Cablevision and Verizon dropped coverage of this network and are in deadlocked negotiations with no resolution in sight. Luckily, ESPN will have extensive coverage of the year’s first Grand Slam to help Long Island tennis fans make it through the dog days of winter.
My favorite part of the tournament is the vicarious pleasure I get from watching the Aussie fans in shorts and tee-shirts basking in the sun, while seeing the best players in the world set the Grand Slam tone for the forthcoming year. Summer is just five months away.
I hear that the 1994 U.S. Open highlights are now available on VHS by the way …
